Margarete

Wow, how can this be the end of December? It is about 8-10 degrees Celsius outside and yet we are celebrating Christmas!

My mother in law moved into assisted living this past fall and I thought it would be nice for her to have some of her own plants to decorate her terrace-we all knew that the plant would not last long it being fall and all, but look it here, it is the 26th of  December and the plant is still blooming! Just goes to show you that global warming has everything under control!

Have a happy day everyone!!

Our Christmas Tree and Traditions

Usually, our family will go out to a tree farm and chop down a tree. This means some friendly arguing over which tree to take, some glühwein, followed by some more discussion on how to get the tree home!!! Every year same story. Except for this year.....our artificial, yet pretty graces the  living room this year. We will be away for Christmas Day, so it just did not make financial sense to get a real one. I think it looks pretty good and the other day our tree got the best compliment it could get---a visitor thought the tree was a real one!

A gift just in time!°

This past week I ran out of vanilla extract---a problem when you live in Germany--you can not just run out to the next grocery store and buy another bottle. Lucky for me, some friends came over for dinner last night and she brought me a bottle as a gift. So thankful as I had cakes to bake this morning.

What makes this bottle extra special is that proceeds of the sale benefits the  Suasan G. Komen for the Cure Fondation.

Happy Pink Saturday Everyone!

A Teddy Bear for Clara

A long long time ago, I learned how to a sew a teddy bear! Took me all weekend, but by Sunday Night there he was finshed and looking pretty. Recently while going through boxes in the attic, I came accross some pink material and decided my great niece Clara could use a teddy bear. Several weeks have gone by since then, til now--when the bug bit me..... not sure if I will make it by Christmas... I am sure going to try.

The pattern....

Phase One complete--tracing the pattern. Next step is to cut all the pieces out!

So, my something pink this Saturday morning is a pink teddy bear for Clara-my great niece.!

Happy Saturday Everyone--be sure to check out all the other wonderful "pink" at

The other day, I came accross this cookie recipe at  http://www.101cookbooks.com. So glad I did---they are delicious and the best part no flour--cookies everyone can enjoy.

Let the Holiday Season Begin.....

This year as in years past, we are celebrating our Thanksgiving on Saturday---with Thursday not being a holiday in Germany--everyone is working. I will be working at a friends house-cooking Thanksgiving there and then on Friday I will spend the day decorating our home for the holidays! So excited, the wait to play Christmas Music all day long is over! Then on Saturday, my own kitchen will be filled with family(sister, nephew, boyfriends and girlfriends, son and husband) cooking up our own Thanksgiving. As always the turkey will be on the grill---the only way to go for us. Here´s hoping this holiday season will be the start of a great and healthy future for all of us.

A surprise Thanksgiving

Greetings Everyone and Happy Tablescape Thursday! How are you all doing? Ready for Christmas? Presents wrapped and stockings stuffed? I am slightly behind schedule this year. The house is decorated, yet I still have  to bake the cookies and do the shopping. But, before I delve into all the Christmas Chaos I would like to share with you one of my thanksgiving tables.

Last year for my mothers birthday, I had bought martini glasses and recreated a holiday decoration I had seen in a magazine years ago.

Even had left over napkins from last years party! The napkins were also the inspiration for the silver and white tablescape.

The fireplace lit---it was nice and cozy when the guests arrived.

I love my individual gravy boats!

a view from above!

Champagne for our guests!

The candles are lit....

The food is ready

The guest of honor!!!......(as always we grill our turkey on the gas grill-----soooooooooo goood!)

Now to reveal my secret....did you notice the dishes? They are not real----they are disposable!!! Awesome.!

I am usually not one to use disposable dishes, but these dishes look so real.....

Happy Thursday Everyone!

yellow--orange and white----CANDY CORN!

This year I celebrated Halloween at Kim´s house---she lives in a great neighborhood where you get the "GOOD STUFF"! The young ones went trick or treating and afterwards everyone enjoyed an awesome buffet. Back home my husband and son took care of all the trick or treaters we welcomed----actually ran out of candy this year!!!

In the last of my series of Halloween tables, I brought out those yellow chargers I bought at IKEA and created a candy corn setting. As Thanksgiving is quickly upon us, I wish you all happy holidays--lots of juicy turkey and football games in the backyard.!
